SFS is very excited to turn the September 28th evening’s concert over to The Outlanders for a variety show in the style of oldtime radio. They will showcase 4 groups of musicians in various styles woven together by stories and more – this is going to be fun!
Come one and come all to an evening with The Outlanders Progressive Bluegrass Social Club. The newest group on the scene and the future of acoustic music in the region, OPBSC is a collective of musicians with a goal of supporting the broader genre of acoustic music through jams,education, and shows. The Outlanders pride themselves on being the opposite of whatever “Gatekeepy” is, and will bring you acts that range from Gypsy Jazz, Bluegrass, Old Time, and Irish. Think Prairie Home Companion meets local northwest culture.
In the words of their mission statement, “Outlanders Progressive Bluegrass Social Club is a 501(c)(3) organization of forward-thinking, fast pickin’ musicians and patrons of acoustic community-driven music in all its formats.
Outlanders currently hosts bluegrass sessions and more in the greater Seattle area—four weekly sessions in Seattle and one monthly session in Everett. There is a very helpful guideline about session etiquette, as well as full descriptions of each session on their website. They also host beginner-friendly group classes and provide a list of teachers within the Outlanders Social Club who can teach any willing heart the beauty of progressive bluegrass.
