SFS presents an evening with local songwriters Jed Crisologo, Eileen Cuba, Nick Droz, and Nessa Grasing.
Jed Crisologo mixes Americana, punk rock, and soul influences into heartfelt, catchy, honest tunes. His thoughtful songwriting provides an honest, alive, and intensely human core to his work, while the combination of earnestness and swagger creates a sound that travels from noisy and ambient to stripped-down and raw, raucous and bombastic to swinging and groovy, all while emphasizing the truth and humanity on display. His latest album is 2023’s “River.”

Originally from Florida, Eileen Cuba has been performing for decades, both solo and with bands that opened for acts as diverse as Country Joe McDonald, Greg Brown, and The Tannahill Weavers. There’s rhythm guitar and then there’s rhythm guitar. Think of it as wood and strings becoming a pulsing, percussive dance floor. It’s not folk, it’s not punk, it’s not rock. It’s all of these backed up against each other so tightly you can’t find the edges. This is the music that lives in Eileen Cuba. Whether it’s a single moment in time or a lifetime of experience, her lyrics capture the spirit of our lives and emotions.

An engaging, polished performer with a catalog of work that spans more than twenty years, Nick Droz sews stories of humanity to ear-catching melodies. He spent a decade in Austin honing his craft before moving to Seattle in early 2015. Since relocating to the Northwest, Nick has additionally written a slew of songs on commission from numerous local arts organizations. Handy with a guitar among other instruments, Nick’s sideman résumé also includes many well-known Seattle-based acts.

Nessa Grasing is a Seattle-based singer/songwriter, artist, and educator. Born in NYC, she attended SUNY Purchase, where she earned her ill-advised music degree. There, she opened for artists such as Mitski, Jeffrey Lewis, and Japanese Breakfast. She relocated to Seattle in 2017, where she joined the band Scarves and has been writing and performing with them ever since. Her latest release, “Cocoon,” is an electro-folk collaboration with producer and composer Kirk Pearson, created over long-distance during the early days of the pandemic. She currently teaches art and ceramics in Bellevue and is in the process of producing her first full-length record.
