This mid-week house concert is being produced by Skandia Folkdance Society and co-sponsored by Seattle Folklore Society.   RSVPs for reservations will be accepted starting October 10th.  See below for more information.

This new duo of award-winning Swedish fiddler, Lena Jonsson, and avant folk guitar genius, Ian Carr, has been in the cards since Ian was lured from England to Sweden by the charms of Swedish folk music.  With a swinging repertoire of solo hits and beautifully arranged trad pearls from the forests of Scandinavia, with Ian’s Celtic drive and Lena`s old timey swing, this duo is ready and raring to go!

Lena Jonsson’s ability to balance a deep knowledge of traditional Swedish folk music with innovative artistic sensibilities, sparkling joy of life and the charisma of a rock-star have made her one of Scandinavia’s most visionary musicians. She has created a unique style inspired by traditional Swedish music with rock, pop and American old-time and bluegrass traditions.

Ian Carr is widely considered to be one of the best and most influential folk guitarists of his generation. Sarah Coxon has this to say about Ian Carr:  “There’s a fine line between musical genius and a vortex of chaos and Ian Carr has long dances along it like a reckless Highland dancer with his laces undone.  …He….possesses a rare warmth and inner sparkle that matches his exemplary guitar picking.”

In April 2023, the Lena Jonsson Trio won Artist of the year at the Swedish Folk awards. Their latest album ”Stories from the Outside” won both a Swedish Grammy (Grammis) and the Manifest prize in 2021 and Album of the year by LIRA Musikmagasin and song of the year by Swedish radio. Lena Jonsson Trio released their third album ”Elements” in June 2023.

You’ll be treated to a virtuosic and playful evening of wonderful music with Lena Jonsson and Ian Carr!
